We’re a month into 2015 and the news is good. flickr vaccine record book

In the US, there is one vaccine against meningitis serogroup B approved by the FDA, and another on its way to being approved. This development offers more protection against meningococcal disease.

Scientists the world over are deep into Ebola vaccine trials, with more than one vaccine looking promising. We’ll soon have a way to prevent infection against this truly horrible disease.

There are dozens of prostate cancer vaccines in the clinical pipeline, with 10 in Phase II and one at market. Imagine the value this cancer vaccine will bring to the lives of so many. In the US alone, there are nearly a quarter of a million new cases each year.

There is a vaccine going to trial for RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). Given a bit of time, this scourge of the young and old may finally be meeting its end!

Within the next five years, we’ll have a flu vaccine that will protect against most all strains and will not require an annual dose. We hope.

These and so many other vaccines in the works bring value to our lives by reducing the burden of disease and enhancing the quality of our days.
